Our Spiritual Retreat

We invite you to join our beautiful San Pedro and Ayahuasca retreat in the heart of the Peruvian Andes. Let the mountains cradle you through this powerful plant medicine retreat.

Welcome to Spirit Plant Journeys 10 day San Pedro and Ayahuasca Retreat. Our beautiful retreat center facing the breathtaking buttresses of the Pitusiray and Sawasiray Mountains.

Relax in one of our 4 beautiful cottages where you feel the comforts of home surrounded by the tranquility of the Sacred Valley. We are so pleased to provide you one of the most comfortable and beautiful venues in all the Sacred Valley.

Many of the Ayahuasca retreats in Peru are in the Amazon jungle and it is a special place, but our hearts belong in the mountains. The Sacred Valley outside Cusco is one of the most special places we’ve discovered. It may not be the spiritual home of Ayahuasca but the ceremonies here are no less powerful.

The Andes are the spiritual home of San Pedro (also known as Huachuma). San Pedro is a medicinal cactus that used for healing and religious divination in the Andes Mountains region for thousands of years. On our retreat, you will get to experience both of these profound medicines. These two plants complement each other.

We believe the world is in need of a shift of consciousness toward compassion and sustainability. This begins with personal healing. We are lucky to live in a time where the opportunity to travel and take part in Plant Medicine ceremonies has never been so possible. Through this pilgrimage, one is able to explore the deepest corners of the inner self.

Our Shaman – Gume & Bernhard

Gumercindo comes from a long line of traditional shamans of the Ucayali River in the Peruvian Amazon. ‘Gume’ carries a wonderful energy and conducts a powerful ceremony carried out in the traditional way as of his ancestors.

Bernhard has a broad understanding of thought processes and patterns. He is intuitive and has the ability to help people to look at situations from a different perspective, helping them to see through the layers of their thought and belief structures and guiding them to connect with their own truth.

What to Expect During Ceremony

Ayahuasca Ceremony

The group will gather in the evening and head to the Maloca. Each person will find their seat where they have access to pillows, blankets, and purge bucket.

Once everyone is settled in the candle lit Maloca, the Shaman passes around a cup of the medicine to each guest. Once everyone has drunk, the work begins with Gumercindo calling in La Mareación. (See the  Calling In La Mareación video). The powerful medicine songs fill the Maloca and after 20-45 minutes the medicine takes hold. What happens for each guest during this time is completely unique to their experience, and needs. Some guests feel the medicine much stronger than others.

Blessings

Towards the end of the ceremony Gumercindo begins individual blessings. During this time, guests sit at the front of the Maloca for a blessing involving specific medicine songs called for the guest.

Songs and Praise

After the blessings, Gume begins a series of traditional Pervian folk songs and original compositions. Accompanied by acoustic guitar the songs are different from the Icaros, but provide and powerful healing.

San Pedro Ceremony

While just as powerful as our Ayahuasca ceremony, the San Pedro ceremony operates on a different axis. The ceremony begins at 8 a.m. after a night of fasting. The group gathers outdoors, and Bernhard explains how the ceremony will unfold. He then performs a brief ritual to start the day, and sings spiritual songs. The medicine is then distributed to each guest. After drinking the sacred medicine, each guests is free to roam about our facilities for the rest of the day. Guests should remain silent throughout the ceremony. Like Ayahuasca, the individual experience on the medicine varies for each guest. Bernhard will be present to assist your process with his endless wisdom and calming presence.
